Purpose of Role

Responsible for understanding and interpretation of regulatory and development consent requirements and provision of internal advice.

Scope of Job

Establishing and interpreting regulatory and development consent requirements.

Provision of advice to client on regulatory requirements and development consent processes.

Development and maintenance of a comprehensive Permissions Schedule.

Support to regulatory liaison, regulatory scrutiny programme management and independent oversight programme.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

• Good first degree in science or engineering subject.

• Chartered membership status in relevant professional institute.

• Significant understanding of the regulatory regime relating to geological disposal.

• Strong interpersonal and influencing skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to effectively communicate complex requirements.

Duties & Key Responsibilities

Establishing and interpreting regulatory requirements

• Engaging with regulators, central and local government and their advisers, legal advisers and international organisations to establish the permissioning and radiological protection requirements for implementation of geological disposal.

• Development and maintenance of a process for capturing and interpreting regulatory and development consent requirements and ensuring their effective communication to other functions.

• Managing the client’s input to international, government and regulatory policy, legislative and guidance HSSEQ developments.

Development and maintenance of a comprehensive Permissions Schedule

• Identify all regulatory permissions and related requirements and documentation and incorporate into and maintain a schedule.

• Obtain agreement to the schedule with BEIS and regulators.

• Communicate the schedule within the company as a basis for the GDF implementation programme.

Provision of advice to client on regulatory requirements.

• Provision of advice to client on regulatory and radiological protection requirements.

• Preparation of client guidance on regulatory and radiological protection requirements including on legally compliant permissioning processes.

• Supporting client planning for the implementation of geological disposal.

• Contribute to client’s intelligent client capability in relation to external advice on regulatory and development consent requirements.

Support to regulatory liaison, regulatory scrutiny programme management and independent oversight programme.

• Supporting development of the regulatory relationship.

• Supporting management of the regulatory scrutiny programme.

• Supporting independent oversight activities.
