Purpose of Role

The objective of this contract is to provide the client with task-based support to the team responsible for developing client’s digital safety case system, from a capable individual who will undertake a number of data entry level activities. The contractor must be a capable and confident user of IT systems and be prepared to learn and adapt to unfamiliar software packages.

This role is part time (22.5 hours per week; equivalent to 3 days per week). The role will be based at the client’s Harwell office.

1. Scope of work

The contractor shall provide a suitable person to provide task-based support for a number of data entry, document conversion and administrative level activities needed for the client’s effort to create a digital safety case system.

In order to undertake this role a suitable candidate must meet the following criteria:

• Must be a confident and capable user of IT systems; this includes standard software packages such as Microsoft Office in addition to a clear ability to learn and adapt to unfamiliar software packages.

• Have good communication skills, both verbal and written.

• Must be accurate and efficient at data or text entry via IT systems.

• Must be good at checking relevant data or text for accuracy as well as typographical, grammatical and spelling errors.

• Be able to obtain the relevant security clearance (essential).

Additionally, it would be advantageous (although not essential) for candidates to:

• Have experience or be familiar in editing webpages or HTML

• Have experience with the Oxygen XML Editor/Author software package

• Be familiar with single source publishing software (advantageous although not essential).

• Have knowledge of either the DITA or LaTeX digital typesetting standards (knowledge of similar systems/standards would also advantageous).

2. Deliverables

The contractor will work closely with the team responsible for developing the clients digital safety case management system and be responsible for delivering specific tasks, as determined by the system’s Model Senior Responsible Owner (MSRO), Model Technical Owner (MTO) or those they delegate responsibility to.

Such tasks may include (but are not limited to):

• Compiling and maintaining an accurate bibliography for the safety case, using a suitable bibliography management system

• Typographical checking and editing of documents in formats compatible with the client’s digital safety case management system

• Addition of appropriate meta-data to tables, graphs etc. that appear in relevant documents

• Compiling and maintaining accurate information on links between data, models, documents and other outputs (at a level where specialist scientific/technical knowledge is not required) which are owned by the client or used in the safety case.

The contractor may also be required to undertake other administrative or data entry tasks within the Research and Environment team.

3. Technical and performance requirements

The contractor will need sufficient security clearance to meet the requirements for access to the client’s IT network. Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance is required, which will require satisfactory vetting by the Office of Civil Nuclear Security.

The contractor will be a confident and capable user of IT systems. As such they will be proficient with standard software packages, such as Microsoft Office. They will also have the capability and confidence to learn and adapt to new or unfamiliar software packages in a timely fashion.

The contractor will be responsible for entry, editing and checking of data or text in suitable IT packages, in an accurate and efficient manner.

This role has been deemed in-scope of IR35
