Magnox Ltd are the management and operations contractor responsible for the decommissioning of twelve nuclear sites, and are also responsible for the operation of one hydroelectric site on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA).
The Role Description
An excellent opportunity has now arisen for a Land Quality and Delicensing Project Manager, based at our Harwell site in Oxfordshire.
This is a unique opportunity within the UK nuclear industry’s site restoration work, as the Harwell site is a key hub of economic growth, situated in the Science Vale Enterprise Zone. The restoration of the Harwell site aims to release significant land areas to the Harwell Oxford campus and therefore will return this land to socioeconomic use for the benefit of future generations.
The Land Quality Records team is part of the Site Restoration Programme within Magnox Decommissioning. The team is responsible for verifying that land at Harwell is suitable for site release including compiling information for nuclear site Delicensing and Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR) permit surrender.
This role will contribute to the team’s effective delivery of technically robust information in support of Magnox’s mission to release the Harwell nuclear licensed site for future use by the Harwell Oxford science and innovation campus.
You will assist the Land Quality and GIS Technical Specialist by
providing in-field supervision as well as sample and budget management for site characterisation works.
Compiling project records for provision to the site land quality records team for entry into our IMAGES land quality database and GIS mapping system.
Reviewing large volumes of records and data for compilation into site release reports.
Authoring technical reports in support of site release- specifically for delicensing and Environmental Permitting Regulations permit surrender documentation.
Assisting the team in compiling information in response to regulatory requests as part of the site release documentation review processes.
The role will play a key part in land quality projects from conceptual site model compilation, to site investigations, through to final data assessments and reporting.
Essential & Desirable Skills
The post would suit a person who is a self-motivated, has experience in supervising fieldwork, interacting with laboratories, and has good report writing skills.
You will be able to demonstrate experience in site characterisation works supervision and have at least 2 years’ experience in assessing land, materials or structures impacted by industrial activity.
You will also have good technical report compilation skills.
The person will need to have good interpersonal skills to maintain good dialogue with other site project teams to ensure that complete and accurate information is available to support site release documentation.
Desirable Skills include:
Experience of working in the nuclear industry or the assessment of radioactive materials.
Experience in environmental sample management and field data recording.
Experience in responding to regulatory requests for information.
Familiarisation with environmental regulation relevant to land quality
Interest in working with records, maps and environmental information
Good interpersonal skills.
Good general computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel).
Willingness to be trained to use the IMAGES land quality database and ESRI’s ArcGIS software for basic map compilation
This post is supported by the land quality records team who will provide training in the use of our IMAGES/GIS system as appropriate. As such a good level of computer literacy is required for working with the system and for the technical report compilation aspect of this role.
You will be qualified to Degree level in a relevant subject (e.g. Environmental Science, Geography, Geology, Nuclear Sciences, Engineering; other scientific disciplines will be considered).
